This annoying feature HIDES your publication by default
If you’re new to Substack, you’re probably victim to this default setting. This is the under 1 minute fix.
Hi Friends!
Especially the friends new to Substack! Toda I am talking about one setting (on /off) style that if not activated makes your Substack Profile and your publication one and the same… which means your publication is effectively BURIED!
How did I find this out? Well I am trying to make a habit of welcoming my premium subscribers publicly on the Me Time Chat… And when I was looking for their publications I had to literally dig for it. I thought the issue was an app problem… but it goes a bit deeper than that.
No worries! I also have the fix.
Our time is precious so this will be short and sweet.
Rooting for your success,
Noemi
Substack’s new “Theme” setting is defaults to “profile”. This default forces your publication to look exactly like, you guessed it: your personal profile. This means:
Your publication name defaults to your name.
You can’t add a custom description.
Your newsletter loses its distinct branding.
If your Theme is already set on “Custom” you can stop reading now.
You’re good! No need to read more or read this instead.
Basically you have no website. It is buried.
How to Fix It:
Go to Dashboard - Website Editor
Click the “Theme” on the right hand side of the Website Editor and
Move from “Profile” to “Custom ” (This unlocks customization!)
4. Click SAVE.
Warning: If you’ve already customized your publication’s website, do not switch back to “Match Profile” you could lose all your customizations instantly.
Result:
Now you can:
Use a custom name for your publication (press the pic to go to guide)
Have a standalone Substack website that doesn’t look like your personal profile.
Not everyone may be affected by this, but if you are, hope this solves it!
Rooting for your success,
Noemi

if yøur home setting was already on "custom", nothing changes. However, it's a great reminder to keep this up to date and have a look at how ... it looks.
Great read!
I always think it looks so much better on custom and its all free... I love substack... question... how did you get that fabulous gif as your header...
